Gem County Commissioners
415 East Main Street
Emmett, Idaho 83617
Dear Friends,
As my letter of a month ago stated I am today sending the people of Gem
County a payment on the money that was sent to Mother for food for her and
her three children for approximately seven years before and after 1920. I
calculated that we received $1395 so today my check in the amount of $4,200
is enclosed to take care of that gift. The check is three times the amount
received to help balance off the cheaper dollar today. I am not an economist
so I don’t know the exact multiple but the extra $2,800 dollars should show
that I am concerned about the difference. I am hoping that you officials can
accept my gift in the spirit that is was given to the people of Gem County.
Mother, if she were here today, would be immensely pleased that the Gem
County gift is being repaid for the $15 amount each month made it possible
to feed the four of us. THANK YOU GEM COUNTY!
Sincerely,
Kern Riggs, age 92
